Button role menus and reaction roles

Let members pick their own roles with buttons or emoji reactions.

Role menus post a message with buttons, and each button toggles a role, so members can pick pronouns, colours, notification pings or interests themselves. Buttons can show the server's own custom emojis.

Classic reaction roles work too: members react with an emoji to get a role and remove the reaction to lose it. The bot seeds each emoji so members only have to click.

Roles with moderator or admin permissions can never be handed out this way, and the bot checks that it is allowed to manage each role before it builds the menu.

What you get

  • Button role menus with custom emojis
  • Emoji reaction roles on any message
  • Menus for pronouns, colours, pings and interests
  • Refuses roles that carry moderator or admin permissions

Set it up by asking

Connect your server, open a chat and describe what you want. For example:

  • “Add a button role menu for pronouns and colour roles”
  • “Create ping roles for events and announcements with a menu in #roles”
  • “Add a reaction role: react with 🎮 to get the Gamer role”

Questions

How do I let members choose their own roles in Discord?

Ask Modu for a role menu: it creates the roles if needed and posts a message with a button per role that members click to add or remove it.

Buttons or reaction roles: which is better?

Buttons are clearer and work without reaction permissions; reaction roles suit servers used to them. Modu supports both. Button menus are part of Pro, reaction roles are on every plan.

Can a role menu give out admin roles?

No. Roles with moderator or admin permissions are refused.

Role menus and reaction roles is included in every paid plan. Compare plans, read how Modu works or continue with Discord.
