How to set up reaction roles and role menus in Discord
Ask Modu for a role menu and it posts a message with buttons (or reactions) that give and take roles when members press them, for pronouns, colours, games or notification pings. It can show your server's custom emojis and only offers roles that are safe to self-assign.

Step by step
- 1
Sign in and add the bot
Go to modu.ubits.tech, continue with Discord, and add Modu to your server in one click. Adding it with Administrator lets every feature work without asking for permissions again; Modu's tools still never create or grant Administrator roles.
- 2
Start a plan
The AI agent and every bot feature are in every paid plan, starting with Starter. Pick one on the pricing page; you can change or cancel it any time.
- 3
Describe the menu
Say which roles to offer and where, for example "Add a button role menu in #roles for He/Him, She/Her and They/Them". Modu creates missing roles and posts the menu.
- 4
Try it
Press a button as a member: the role is added, press again to remove it.
What to ask Modu
- “Add a button role menu for pronouns and colour roles”
- “Make a role menu for game pings with our server emojis”
Tips
- Keep the bot's role above the roles it hands out, or Discord will not let it assign them.
Questions
Buttons or reactions?
Both work. Buttons are clearer for members and do not depend on the message's reaction list, so new menus use buttons by default.
Can members give themselves admin roles?
No. Modu only puts roles in a menu that are safe to self-assign and never offers roles with powerful permissions.
